Friends of Frank M. Mitch will be saddened to learn of his passing October 20, 2022, in Oberlin, Ohio at the age of 95. Frank leaves behind his wife Amy, to whom he was married for 74 years, his brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Mary, three sons, David, Charles, and Mark, two daughters-in-law, Jean and Rowena, and three grandchildren, Sage, Nicholas, and Michelle. He was preceded in death by his sister Megs. Frank was born on a farm in Central Illinois, the son of Michael and Mary (Bishop) Mitch. He graduated from high school in Springfield Illinois and joined the Navy toward the end of World War II. He completed a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois after previously meeting his future wife, Amy Lou Reese, while studying at Iowa State on a Navy Training program. He later completed an MBA degree at Kent State University. Frank worked as a mechanical engineer doing tire technical work for B.F. Goodrich for 43 years. His career included a 6-year stint in New Zealand in the 1950s, and then tire technical consulting in his last 10 years with the company. Frank loved to travel and his career took him to many countries, including visits to Turkey, Germany, Italy, Greece, Spain, France, England, Israel, Philippines, Mexico, Columbia, and Canada. He retired in 1991. Frank had a diverse range of hobbies which he pursued with diligence and enthusiasm including photography (he had his own film dark room), hiking, gardening, building and maintaining computers, painting, pottery (he had his own kiln), bread making, website design, and for some 35 years, beekeeping. Frank was active in several volunteer service activities. He was scoutmaster of Troop 385, BSA for 13 years. He served with Mobile Meals delivery and Habitat for Humanity in the Akron area. He served on the Bath Township Trustees Advisory Council for some 15 years. He was also quite active in the Gardeners of America/Men’s Garden Clubs of America in numerous roles culminating in his service as National President of the organization in 2018. Frank‘s remains will be interred in Moore’s Chapel Cemetery in a private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations be made to the Summit Metroparks Foundation to support the parks and trails Frank and Amy hiked for more than fifty years.
