Freida Montague Obituary
Freida Lenora (nee Bowser) Montague, 77, of Elyria, departed this life Saturday, February 6, 2021, She was born September 22, 1943 in Brooklyn, NY and was the youngest of three children born to the late Eleanora and Leonard M. Bowser. She was a 1961 graduate of George W. Wingate High School. Freida was joined in matrimony with the late Eugene L. Montague, Sr. March 5, 1961 and from that union two daughters were born, Denise and Gina. They later divorced in 1973 and she never remarried. She became a member of Elyria Baptist Church in December 2019 and loved helping out wherever they needed and serving at the church functions every chance she got. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, listening to music, dancing, singing, watching TV and playing spades on the computer. Freida always did things her way and she was very outspoken and opinionated. No matter what the subject was, she had an answer for you. She held various jobs and traveled to many places in her lifetime, her favorite being to Hawaii. Her final wish is to have her ashes spread in the ocean. Freida leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughters, Denise L. Gaither of OH and Gina Holiday of NY; stepsons, Tim “Squirt” Thomas of NY, Lance Montague of NC; stepdaughter, Monique Blamoville of NY; grandchildren, Aubrey Gaither of VA, Mija Doggett of VA, Takenya Holiday of MN, David Holiday of NY, Andrew Gaither of MO, Dyani Melton of MD, Christina Gaither of VA and Chanise Holdiday of NY; great-grandchildren, Elijah Gaither-Veal, Elisa Veal, Josiah Moore, Cire and Cerila Pearson, Preston Moore, Isaiah and Isaac Veal (whom she called her twins), Zara Boateng, Mari Melton, Tyson Boateng and Salvanah Dyer; godson, Brian P. Hunter of NV; and sisters, Jeannette M. Walrond and Tawana Washington, both of NY. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Leonard Bowser; stepson, Colonel Eugene Louis Montague, Jr.; son in law, David Holiday; and great-granddaughter, Nora Pecolia Rose Melton. At her request, all services were private.
