Gary McConnell Obituary
Gary W. McConnell of Wellington, Ohio, died early in the morning of September 20, 2022, at home with his family after a short illness. He was born October 26, 1950, in Oberlin, Ohio, and was a 1969 graduate of Wellington High School. Gary was the fourth generation to farm his family’s farm. He started his working career at Kipton Elevator and later was a school bus driver/supervisor for 18 years with the Wellington Exempted School District before retiring in 2015. He was a member of First United Methodist Church Wellington. Gary loved just being on his farm and tinkering on his tractor and other equipment out in the shop. He was very loyal to the John Deere Company and would only have the yellow and green equipment on his farm. Some of his happiest times were sitting on a tractor and working in the fields. Everyone knew Gary as just a kind, caring and down to earth man whose trademark was his bib overalls and a flannel shirt. He also loved taking the grandchildren and great-grandchildren for J. D. Gator rides around the farm. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes football fan and was thrilled to finally see the script Ohio in person at the old Cleveland stadium. He also enjoyed eating out with family and friends. Married in 1990, Gary and his wife Cheryl shared 32 years together. Gary is survived by his loving wife Cheryl (née Clift); son Patrick (Carrie) McConnell; daughter Liz Gugliemotto (née McConnell); grandchildren Lauren, Vinnie, Christopher, and Alex; and great-grandchildren Fiona and Eli. He was preceded in death by his parents Dale and Patricia McConnell (née Willard) and a sister Cynthia “Cyd” Butti. A service will be Friday, October 7, 2022 at 11:00am at First United Methodist Church Wellington with the Reverend Hyeran Lee Yu officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wel-Help food pantry or First United Methodist Church Wellington. Both are located at 127 Park Place, Wellington, Ohio, 44090.
