Reverend George E. BaileyReverend George E. Bailey, 91, a resident of Wesleyan Village, Elyria, died, December 5, 2017. He was born February 8, 1926 in Adrian, Michigan. George attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth, Virginia and graduated from Goshen High School in Damascus, Ohio. From 1944-1946 George served as a Sergeant in The US Army Air Corps. He was a 1949 graduate of Asbury College and a 1953 graduate of Pittsburgh Xenia Seminary. While in high school he played trombone in the band and also sang in the college glee club.Reverend Bailey was a minister with The United Methodist Church East Ohio Conference. His church appointments included Fosterville, Sugar Grove, New Somerset; East Fairfield; Gnadenhutten; First Bellaire; Youngstown Indianola and Canton Church of the Lakes. He then served as Mansfield District Superintendent for six years and retired in 1991 as Pastor Emeritus at Ridgewood UMC in Parma. He was very interested in the relationship between science and religion, which he continued to explore with enthusiasm. Other interests included photography, writing, painting, sailing and traveling. He loved singing and playing table games with family and friends.George is survived by his wife of sixty nine years, Betty J. (nee: Weber); son, Charles Bailey; daughter, Carol (Michael) Tessmer; granddaughters, Sarah Hagy White (Kyle) and Alyssa Hagy Schulthesis (Ryan) and great grandchildren; Cole and Evan White and Grace Schulthesis.
