George P. Vincent, 93, of Elyria, died May 19, 2017 at Rae Ann Suburban, Westlake. He was born August 29, 1923 in Cleveland, and was a 1942 graduate of Elyria High School.George was among the first 18 and 19 year olds to be drafted into the U.S. Army, serving as a Staff Sergeant in France, Alsace-Lorraine, Germany and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. For 46 years, he was employed as a salesman at Mathew Zechman, Inc., retiring in 1985. George was a lifetime member of First Congregational United Church of Christ and Elyria V.F.W. #1079 and also a member of Elyria American Legion Post 12; Elyria Moose Club; Elyria Elks Lodge #465 and was a former member and Past President of Oberlin Golf Club. He was an avid golfer, built golf clubs and also enjoyed bowling and playing cards. George is survived by a son Thomas (Susan) Vincent of North Olmsted; daughter Barbara (William) Custar of Elyria; grandchildren, Andrew and Dan Custar and Amy and Rebecca Vincent and great grandsons, Benjamin James Custar and Jack William Custar. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Beatrice I. (nee Ensign) in 2015; parents Euclid and Kathryn Vincent and a sister, Ann Michel. George’s life will be celebrated with a gathering of family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice, 9775 Rockside Rd., Suite 270 Valley View, OH 44125 or Elyria American Legion Post 12, 393 Ohio St., Elyria.
