Gerald Charles Koepp's Obituary
Gerald Koepp Obituary
Gerald Charles Koepp, 83, of Elyria Township took the hand of the Lord and entered into his Heavenly home Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Avon Oaks Caring Community. His family is extremely grateful for the love, care, and support that he received from the outstanding staff of Avon Oaks. Gerald was a 1955 graduate of Elyria High School and attended Lorain County Community College and Baldwin-Wallace College. Jerry was employed as a Glass Color Lab Supervisor for Harshaw Chemical for 30 years – now known as Engelhard Corporation. While there he developed color for such products as Pepsi, Coca-Cola, and 7Up bottles; Christmas tree light bulbs; as well as many glass-colored products for Libby Owens Ford and Corning. In addition, he was employed by Aid Association for Lutherans and also owned and operated Jerry’s Painting and Wallpaper Services. He was a member of the U.S. Army 357th Ordinance Company serving in Fort Knox, KY during the Berlin Wall Crisis. He had a love of bowling, golfing, and fishing. Jerry volunteered at the Stocker Center Art Gallery for 4 years. He was President of the Harshaw Golf League, President of the Lutheran Bowling League, Head Trustee at St. John’s Lutheran Church, member of the American Legion, and the Thunderbird Hills Senior Golf League. His favorite things in life were big family get togethers and vacations – traveling to Florida, the Carolinas, Wisconsin, the Caribbean and anniversary trips to Nova Scotia, Hawaii, the Canadian Rockies, and Alaska! His love of his wife, children, and grandchildren were the utmost in his life! He attended and supported all Elyria West girls and boys basketball, football, and baseball games. His immense joy was that of watching his grandchildren participate in Elyria High’s basketball and golf teams and Vermilion’s art programs, marching band, concert band, and tennis. Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Muriel Grace (nee Klein); a son Mark (Sharon) Koepp of Elyria; daughter Diane (Kurt) Schuetz of Wakeman; grandchildren Kevin and Justin Koepp, Jared and Hannah Schuetz; brother Ronald (Deeanna) Koepp of Elyria; sister Barbara Sennhenn of Elyria, sister-in-law Jan Koepp of Oberlin, sister-in-law Audrey Morris of Avon, sister-in-law Ardis Klein of Elyria; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Koepp; parents, Clarence and Alvira (nee Koch) Koepp; brother, Gordon Koepp; brothers-in-law, James Sennhenn and Dean Morris; grandparents, Charles and Hulda Koepp and Frank and Louise Koch. Friends will be received Tuesday, October 19, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria and again Wednesday, October 20, 2021 from noon until the time of a 1:00 pm service at St. John Lutheran Church, 1140 West River Road North, Elyria. Reverend Bill Mugnolo will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Lorain County Metroparks, Elyria Public Library, or Avon Oaks Activity Fund. His advice to others would be “Be kind to everyone, always give a helping hand, love each other like you would like to be loved, and always, always trust in the Lord”. Pray fervently!VisitationDicken Funeral Home and Cremation ServiceTuesday, October 19, 2021 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM 323 Middle Ave.Elyria, OH 44035 VisitationSt. John Lutheran ChurchWednesday, October 20, 2021 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM 1140 West River Road NorthElyria, OH 44035 ServiceSt. John Lutheran ChurchWednesday, October 20, 2021 1:00 PM 1140 West River Road NorthElyria, OH 44035 GravesideRidge Hill Memorial ParkWednesday, October 20, 2021 North Ridge Rd.Amherst Township, OH 44001
