Gerald E. Andress, 78, of Elyria, died November 7, 2016 at Arden Courts of Westlake.He was born January 2, 1938 in Elyria and was a 1955 graduate of Elyria High School. He attended Ohio University and received a degree in meteorology from Florida State University in 1961. From 1963 to 1967, he was a captain in the United States Air Force, serving as a weather officer in Fort Benning, GA and Thailand. Gerry was employed by the National Weather Service in Cleveland from 1961 to 1978 and then by the National Weather Service F.A.A. Center in Oberlin, retiring in 1992. From 1993 to 2000, he worked for the Lorain County Metro Parks.Gerry was a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church, Elyria, a life member of Elyria Elks Lodge #465 and a member of Elyria V.F.W. # 1079. He enjoyed travel, reading, computer games, gardening, attending his grandchildrens events and visits with friends.Gerry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Karen (nee Carman); daughters, Stefanie (Matt) Janowicz of Portage, MI and Megan Edgell of Elyria; grandchildren, Kyle and Danielle Janowicz, Dylan, Jessica and Scott Edgell; niece Shaun (Francis) Baffour; nephews, Mark (Gale) Andress, Kevin Andress and Randy (Candy) Brenneman.He was preceded in death by his parents Clellan and Juanita Andress; brother Larry Andress and a sister, Patricia Huck.Friends will be received Thursday, November 10, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. A service will be Friday, November 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Reverend Dr. Janet A. Long officiating. Burial will be Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria where Elyria V.F.W. #1079 will present military honors.
