Gertrude M. Gantz (nee Blakeley), 91 of Elyria, died Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Center Ridge Health Campus in North Ridgeville.She was born February 10, 1920 in Cincinnati, moved to Elyria in 1924 and was a 1937 graduate of Elyria High School.Gertrude was employed for 30 years as an administrative assistant and secretary by the Elyria City Schools. She was a 63 year member of Elyria American Legion Auxiliary Unit 12; American Legion Past Presidents Parley and Elyria V.F.W. #1079 Ladies Auxiliary since 1989. Other interest included flowers, gardening and she was a 40 year member of the Chiquita card club.Gertrude is survived by her husband of 65 years, Harold R. Gantz; sons Douglas E. Gantz, her primary caregiver of Elyria and William A. (Carol) Gantz of Westlake; grandchildren Allison Beth Gantz and Christopher Gantz and great grandchildren Chloe, Abigail and Sophie Gantz.She was preceded in death by sisters Ruth Hill, Edith Freeman and Dorothy Blakeley, brothers Robert, Oliver and Ellsworth Blakeley and parents James and Amanda (Otey) Blakeley.Friends will be received Wednesday, January 11, 2012 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, .323 Middle Ave., Elyria, OH 44035. Elyria American Legion Auxiliary will then conduct an 11:00 a.m. prayer service followed by a funeral service with Reverend Dalton D. Love officiating.
