Gregory Castle Obituary
Gregory A. Castle, 75, of Elyria, died June 11, 2023 after a brief illness. He was born August 17, 1947 in Elyria and was a 1965 graduate of Elyria High School. From 1966 to 1969, Greg served with the US Army 2nd Armored Calvary Regiment, stationed in Amberg, Germany, as a tank turret mechanic. After his discharge from the Army, he joined the Elyria Fire Department in 1971, was promoted to Lieutenant in 1977, Captain in 1980, and Assistant Fire Chief in 1983. He ran the Fire Prevention Bureau during the latter part of his career and retired as the city's Fire Marshal in 2002. During his retirement, he enjoyed watching the Cleveland Guardians, OSU Buckeye football and listening to 60’s music. Greg is survived by his daughter, Sarah (Dylan) Snell of Littleton, NH; son, Michael Castle of Elyria and siblings, Randy (Carmen) Castle of Elyria, Pat (Larry) Krueger of Grafton, Jeff (Donna) Castle of Wellington and Marcia (Mike Martier) Logan of Elyria. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Susan G. (nee Olmsted) in 2012 and his parents, Robert and Norma Castle. Friends will be received Friday, June 16, 2023 from 11:00 am until the time of a 1:00 pm service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. Reverend Kathryn Ketchum will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery.
