Hampton Brook McCrayHampton Brook McCray 87, of North Ridgeville, died, September 30th, 2018 at O’Neill Healthcare, North Ridgeville. Hampton was born May 24, 1931 in Cleveland, West Virginia, son of Eskridge Hampton McCray and Bertha McCray (nee: Armstrong).He graduated from Webster Springs High School in 1949 and attended West Virginia State College in Institute, West Virginia in 1956. He retired from the Cleveland Plain Dealer and was also employed by 28 newspapers during his career.His interests included genealogy and studying the bible. He was a member of Abbe Road Baptist Church, Elyria. He was also a previous member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Western Reserve Society, in Cleveland, Ohio.Hampton married Rena Marie (nee: Matheny) in 1951. Surviving are his wife, Rena McCray, sons, Michael McCray and wife, Peggy (Collar) of Elyria; David McCray and wife, Eileen (Sabo) of Wellington, Paul McCray of Parma Heights, granddaughters, Rena McCray, Hannah McCray, grandsons, David McCray, Colin Herb, and sister, Beatrice Lewis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Louise Pearl McCray, Josephine Stickler and Pauline Nye and brother, Paul Wesley McCray.A memorial service will be Saturday October, 20, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Abbe Road Baptist Church 670 N Abbe Rd, Elyria, OH 44035, Pastor Cal Searles presiding.No flowers, or memorial contributions please.
