Harold Foster Obituary
Harold J. Foster, 95, of Elyria Township died January 11, 2017 at Elms Retirement Village in Wellington. He was born September 15, 1921 in Nova, Ohio and was a 1940 graduate of Troy Rural High School. During World War II, Harold served with the United States Marine Corps in Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands and Bougainville in the Territory of New Guinea. He then participated in the Battle of Iwo Jima, where he received the Purple Heart.He was formerly employed at J.R. Dall Ford then at Bendix Corporation for 25 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Elyria V.F.W. # 1079; Elyria American Legion Post 12 and The Independent Order of Foresters. Other interests included bowling, gardening, singing and spending time with his family. Harold is survived by daughters, Carol (Steve) Majesky and Jan Becker both of Wellington, Darlene (Gary) Brewer of Elyria, Sharon (Robin) Metera of Elyria Township and Patti (Don) Polen of Grafton; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; brother, Larry (Mary) Foster of Nova and his companion of six years, Margie Johnson of New London. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty two years, Hazel B. Foster in 2009; parents, Oscar and Bertha Foster and a sister, Evelyn VanScoy. Friends will be received Sunday January 15, 2017 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave. Elyria. A service will be Monday January 16, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with Reverend John P. Seabold officiating. Burial will be Tuesday January 17, 2017 at 9:00 AM in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria where Elyria VFW # 1079 will conduct military honors.
