Helen R. Benford (nee: Rebeles)Helen R. Benford (nee: Rebeles), 93, of Elyria, died, December 27, 2017. She was born October 25, 1924 in Elyria, was a 1943 graduate of Belden High School and attended Cooper School of Art in Cleveland. Helen was formerly employed for fifteen years as a secretary at Bendix Corporation then for sixteen years in food service for Elyria City Schools, during which time she was active in The Elyria School Support Staff Union. She was also employed for five years in the alteration department at JC Penny Company retiring in 1989. Helen was an avid quilter and skilled in all areas of sewing, from traditional Hungarian embroidery to upholstery work. She imparted her love of reading to her daughters as well as to the children with whom she worked as a tutor for Ohio Reads. She was a member of St. Mary Church, Elyria.Helen is survived daughters, Karolin A. Benford of Elyria and Jennie M. Benford (husband Michael Shanley) and a grandson, Donovan Shanley all of Pittsburgh, PA, and several generations of nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty one years, Donovan Jack Benford in 2009; parents, Victor and Karolin Rebeles; sisters, Carolyn and Rose Rebeles and brothers, Victor and Julius Rebeles. Friends will be received Saturday April 21, 2018 from noon until the time of a 1:00 PM service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. Reverend Father Charles T. Diedrick will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
