Ilona Goodspeed Obituary
Ilona B. Goodspeed (nee Bako), 75, of North Ridgeville and formerly of Elyria died January 7, 2021 after a long illness. She was born April 28, 1945 in Elyria and was a 1963 graduate of Elyria High School. Ilona began her working career of 30 years at Elyria Memorial Hospital as a purchasing agent. She was then employed at LCCAA's finance department for 17 years. In addition, Ilona was co-owner with her husband, in the family business, Goodspeed’s Imperial Furniture Company. Finally, she retired in 2010, and became the official Grandma Babysitter, the job she enjoyed doing most. Ilona was a former member of the Elyria Chapter No. 165 Order of Eastern Star and she enjoyed singing in the church choir. Ilona was most proud of her children and grandchildren. She was their #1 fan and attended as many of their events as possible. She was also a fan of all Cleveland sports and The Ohio State University. Ilona is survived by her children, Ann Marie Goodspeed, Gregg (Stacy) Goodspeed, and Heather Carnahan; grandchildren, Emilee and Jackson Goodspeed and Elizabeth and Thaddeus Carnahan; a brother, Stephen (Helen) Bako, a sister-in-law Joyce Rush, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, William G. in 2009; and parents, Stephen and Elizabeth Bako. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44110. A special thank you from the family to Hospice of the Western Reserve and the staff of Joshua Tree Care Center for the care given to their mother. Private services for the family are in the care of Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elyria.
