Indiana Smith, 65, of Mayfield Heights, passed away July 19, 2023 after a courageous and tenacious fight against breast cancer. She was a beacon of strength, love, and inspiration to all who knew her, leaving an unforgettable impact on the lives of those she touched. Indiana was born March 4, 1958 in Oberlin to the late Inez and Earl Smith, Jr. She attended Oberlin public schools and raised two children. For over 25 years, Indiana was employed as a cook at Oberlin College. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, laughing and spending time with family and friends. Indiana is survived by children, Kareem (Renelle) Smith and Tasha Smith; grandchildren, Stefon (Morgan) Mallard, Isaac, Dominick, Miriam and Selah-Grace Smith; siblings, Ruby Brown and Larry Smith of Lorain, Willie Hollins of FL, Clinton (Lorraine) Smith of Slidell, Lois (Darrell) Miller of Indianapolis and Milton (Jacqueline) Smith of Oklahoma and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rachel; grandson, Karis Mallard; paternal grandparents, Indiana and Earl Smith, Sr; maternal grandparents, Oba and Laura Gilmore; brothers, Leroy and Robert and a sister, Barbra. Friends will be received Thursday, July 27, 2023 from 10:00 am until the time of an 11:00 am service at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 47 Locust Street, Oberlin with Reverend Fred L. Bell officiating. Burial will be 1:00 pm Friday, July 28, 2023 in Westwood Cemetery, Oberlin.
