James Mitchell Obituary
James A. Mitchell, 87, of Elyria, died April 12, 2022 after a three year illness. He was born July 21, 1934 in North Ridgeville. For 32 years, James was employed as a paint repairman at Ford Motor Company and had traveled as a paint consultant to China and Vietnam. After retiring from Ford, he held the rank of sergeant and was employed for 20 years at Schmidt Security in Mansfield. James enjoyed spending time at Lake Erie watching the boats and people fishing. He and his wife enjoyed traveling to Amish Country and in his younger years, liked to roller skate at the Roller Arena. His greatest gift was the love of his family; he was everyone’s best friend and had a deep faith in God. James was a dedicated husband of 67 years to Violet Ruth; father of Janet (Kenneth) Crawford, Rita (William) Milks, Brenda (Robert) Stevens and James A. Mitchell, Jr. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jason (MaryLynn), Justin (Amber), Jonathan, Tonya (Randy), Richie (Stacey), April, Brandon (Kimberley), Jimmy (Amanda), Michael (Samantha) and Crystal; 33 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Wanda Mitchell; sisters, Betty Willis and Juanita Mitchell; brothers, Carl, Walter, Alfred, Gerald, Kenneth and Robert Mitchell; and a grandson, Matthew James Stevens. Friends will be received Friday, April 15, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave, Elyria. A funeral service will be Saturday, April 16, 2022 at 3:00 pm in the funeral home with Pastor Joshua L. Hargis of Elyria Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be Monday, April 18, 2022 at 11:00 am in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
