James McAfee Obituary
James C. McAfee, 90, of Elyria and formerly of Lorain, died September 27, 2020 at Independence Village, Avon Lake. He was born January 7, 1930 in Lorain, was a graduate of Lorain High School Class of 1948A and also The Ohio State University. For many years, Jim was employed as a mechanical engineer at US Steel, Lorain Works from where he retired. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing, spending the winters in Florida, camping and was a member of the Airstream Club-Akron Unit. Jim was the family handyman and was always working on a project around the home. Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy “Dot” (nee Cooley) whom he met and fell in love with at the Guys and Gals Club of the Elyria YWCA; daughters, Kathleen (Rob) Gundry of Olympia, WA, Nancy (Larry) Washburn and Sandra (Ed) Stewart, both of Elyria; beloved grandchildren, Brad, Brian, Heather and Serena Washburn, Emily Sprague, Eli Gundry, Jillian Beall, and Kevin and Jordan Stewart; great-grandchildren, Tyiler, Lorenzo, Blair, Kaiden and Madilyn; and a sister, Shirley Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Marguerite McAfee and sisters, Doris Domazet and Ellen Ammerman. Friends will be received Friday, October 2, 2020 from 10:00 am until the time of an 11:00 am service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria with Reverend Tommy West officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain. COVID-19 precautions will be observed and face coverings are required.
