Jane Evelyn CovenJane Evelyn Coven (nee Davies), 96, an Elyria resident most of her life died January 14, 2019 at home in Wellington. She was born February 12, 1922 in Elyria, the daughter of Robert S. and Mayme (nee Hill) Davies. Jane was a 1939 graduate of Elyria High School and completed one year at Kent State University before returning as a assistant in The Children’s Room of the Elyria Public Library. From 1942 until the end of WWII she was employed by the US Navy Department in Cleveland. In 1948 she received a degree in Geology and Geography from Flora Stone Mather, Western Reserve University and continued graduate work at the University of New Mexico. She taught geology for two years at Western Reserve University where in 1956 she obtained a Masters Degree in Library Science. Jane was then employed by the Cleveland Public Library. From 1964-1967 she was librarian at Elyria High School and served as coordinator of Elyria School Libraries until retiring in 1982. Jane had been active with The Elyria YWCA serving on various boards and committees and became a member of The Margaret E. Barnes Club of Elyria. In 1923 Jane was baptized at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Elyria, serving on numerous boards and committees throughout the years and in 2013 she became the longest living member of the church.Jane is survived by step-children, Richard A. Coven, Cheryl Vinoverski and Gregory A. Coven and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur A. Coven in 1998 and a brother, Robert Davies.A memorial service will be Saturday January 19, 2019 at 11:00 am in First Congregational United Church of Christ, 330 Second Street, Elyria. Reverend Patrick Nicolino will officiate. Burial will be in Fields Cemetery, North Ridgeville. Memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational United Church of Christ. Arrangements are in the care of Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elyria.
