Janet Alice WilcoxJanet Alice Wilcox, 76, of Avon and formerly of Elyria died peacefully September 3, 2017 at Ames Family Hospice House, Westlake, Ohio after a lengthy battle with cancer and Alzheimer’s. Janet was born May 3, 1941 in Mercer, Pennsylvania the daughter of Ora and Andrew Albert. She graduated from Slippery Rock University with a BS in Education and taught at Elyria High School and Lorain County Community College. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Elyria and formerly served as the parish secretary. Janet performed with The Folk Medleys playing guitar and singing and enjoyed traveling, gardening, swimming and knitting. She will be remembered for her kindness to people and animals especially stray cats.Janet married Roy Smith and together they raised their children, Tamara Webb and Troy (Denise) Smith. In 1992 she married the love of her life, George Wilcox. They celebrated twenty five years of marriage adding to the family, step-son, David (Maria) Wilcox and step-daughters, Nancy (Michael) Vacante and Laurie (Tim) Mitchell. Together they were blessed with fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
