Janice Stearn Obituary
Janice M. Stearn (nee Milosic), 83, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2021, after a two-year battle with COPD and lung cancer. She came into the world May 26, 1938, in Lorain, Ohio. In her early childhood, Janice lived in Elyria from age two until starting sixth grade in LaPorte, where she resided until meeting and marrying the love of her life, Thomas Stearn, in 1959. Janice lived in various states throughout her long and fulfilling life, including Florida, Georgia, Virginia, and California, where she spent 49 wonderful years. In 2019, she returned to North Ridgeville, Ohio, with her husband Thomas, to be near friends, family, and her hometown. Janice's education began at Garford school, continued at East Carlisle, and concluded as a 1956 graduate of Elyria High School. After high school, her professional career began with the Colson Corporation in 1957 and continued with the Worthington Ball Company. In the early years of their 62-year marriage, Janice worked as a Teletype Operator for Gulf Guarantee Land & Title in Florida and as a bookkeeper for Elyria Dairies from 1960 to 1962. As a college student's wife, she supported Tom by working as a bookkeeper with Daybrook in Bowling Green, Ohio, until 1968. Janice continued to support Tom as he completed his Master's degree in Athens, Georgia, managing the office for a company that provided labor for Jantzen Sports Wear. After moving to and living in Virginia for a year, Janice and Tom moved to California, where she worked in an accounting department of a company that designed overhead sprinkler systems. Janice retired in 1976 to become a full-time housewife. Janice's retirement gave her the freedom to pursue a wide variety of interests. She spent many hours making cross stitch and macramé gifts for friends. She also enjoyed playing cards, bowling, horseback riding, gathering cattle, vacationing at guest ranches, and traveling the United States during summer vacations, ending up in Ohio for a few days each trip before returning h9me to California. Janice's particular interest was gambling. An avid slots player, people who knew her said her luck was uncanny, and she achieved great success and received many perks from the casinos over her lifetime. As an ardent L.A. Lakers fan, she always made sure to record every game so she wouldn't miss any of the action. Janice loved her husband deeply, and her family and friends will never forget her radiant smile and abundant joy. She is survived by her husband Thomas of 62 years and a half sister, Barbara Anglin of Brownstown, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents Don and Sadie lngwer; half-sister Patricia Perez; and her birth father, Walter Miles. Friends will be received Friday, November 5, 2021 from 11:30 am until the time of a 1:00 pm service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria.
