Jean E. Gebhardt (nee Comstock), 94, of Phoenix, AZ and formerly of Elyria and Louisville, KY, died October 21, 2015.Jean was born November 23, 1920 in Amherst, OH and was formerly employed at C.H. Merthe Company and Elyria Savings & Trust National Bank in Elyria and Goldwater Department Store in Phoenix although her main job was the pride she had in raising her children and caring for her grandchildren. She was a member of Christ Church-Lutheran in Phoenix and a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in Elyria. At Christ Church-Lutheran, she completed the Stephen Ministry Training and attended the mid-week bible study group. She sang in both Christ Church-Lutheran and Grace Lutheran choirs and for many years she was a member of Grace's Altar Guild. Jean is survived by daughters Phyllis Gebhardt of Elyria and Gayle Turner of East Lansing, MI; sons William (Nena) Gebhardt of Houston, TX, Jack (Connie) Strauss of Grafton and Timothy (Sharon) Gebhardt of Elyria; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren and Tony Saporito, whom she cared for throughout his childhood.She was preceded in death by husbands Emery Strauss in 1943 and William Gebhardt in 1988; son Robert Strauss in 2013; daughter Eileen Gebhardt in 2015; parents Philo and Minna Comstock; brothers George, Arthur and Charles Comstock and a sister Ruth Tite.Friends will be received Monday, November 2, 2015 from 10 a.m. until the time of an 11:00 a.m. service at Grace Lutheran Church, 9685 East River Road, Elyria, OH 44035 with Reverend Robert F. Weldon, Sr. officiating. A committal service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church. Arrangements are in the care of Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elyria.
