Jean Riley Binford (nee Mock), 83, a resident of Oberlin, Ohio since 1965, died November 28, 2014 at Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake, Ohio.She was born April 5, 1931 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the daughter of Arthur Clinton and Anabel Needham Mock. Ms. Binford retired from Oberlin College Library after thirty-five years of service. While employed at the College, she helped establish the Oberlin College Office and Professional Employees Union (OCOPE, now Local 502 of OPEIU). In the 1980s, she also tutored on the Colleges Creative Writing Program. After retirement, Ms. Binford served as president of the Oberlin Chapter of League of Women Voters from 2003 until 2007.Jean is survived by her daughter Martha Riley Binford of Belen, NM, niece Charlotte M. Griffin of Raleigh, NC; nephews George F. Mock, Jr. of Irvine, CA, Christopher Mock of Washington, DC and numerous beloved cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents, brother George Francis Mock and her son Lewis Clinton Binford.A celebration of Ms. Binfords life will be held in both Oberlin, OH and Pfafftown, NC in April.
