Jean M. MurphyJean M. Murphy, 88, of Elyria, died, February 21, 2018 after a lengthy illness. She was born August 3, 1929 in Elyria and was a 1947 graduate of Bath High School. Jean received her degree in 1950 as a registered nurse from Akron University and was employed as a RN at Elyria Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1985 as head nurse on the surgical floor. She received training at The Cleveland Clinic and became the first enterostomal therapy nurse at EMH. She also taught at MB Johnson School of Nursing, was a former Elyria Public Health Nurse and an officer on The Board of Lorain County Cancer Society. She was a member of Elyria VFW #1079 Auxiliary and a former member of Guys and Gals. She enjoyed camping, fishing, boating and traveling, including a cruise on The Rhine River with her husband in 2000.Jean is survived by her husband of sixty two years, Richard H. Murphy; daughters, Terry Lantz and Lynda (Farley) McDowell; sons, Richard (Cheryl) Murphy and Randy (Rita) Murphy; granddaughters, Richelle Ackerman, Jasmine Thrasher and Sarah Murphy and a great granddaughter, Dimera Ackerman.She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Julia Date.Friends will be received Sunday February 25, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A funeral service will be Monday February 26, 2018 at 11:00 AM in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 300 Third Street, Elyria. Reverend June Hardy Dorsey, Rector will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, 10501 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, 44106.
