Jean Sparks, 89, of Elyria, died Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Center Ridge Health Campus Assisted Living in North Ridgeville. She was born February 3, 1923 in Providence Rhode Island to Charles H. and Elsie Manchester Sparks and lived in Bristol Rhode Island until moving to Elyria with her family in 1933.Jean was a 1940 graduate of Elyria High School and a 1941 graduate of Oberlin School of Commerce. She was employed as a secretary at General Industries in Elyria, as a waitress at Stouffer Food Corporation for 25 years and then at the Clifton Club, from where she retired. Jean is survived by daughters Barbara (Thomas) Lowen of West Bloomfield, Michigan; Catherine (Roy) Shaw of Elyria; Peggy (Tony) Patterson of Waterford, Michigan and Elizabeth (John) Gingras of Essex Junction, Vermont; son David (Darlene) Sparks of Elyria; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren and two step great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter Christine Wood in 1989. Friends will be received Sunday, May 20, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave. Elyria. A funeral service will be Monday, May 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 300 Third Street, Elyria, OH with Reverend Catherine L. Wright, rector officiating.
