Jean Eaton Obituary
Jean W. Eaton, 100, died December 8, 2016 at Kendal at Oberlin. She was born August 5, 1916 in Shanxi Province, China. Jean left China at the age of seven, moving to Oberlin and was a 1934 graduate of Oberlin High School. She attended Ohio Wesleyan College and received her teaching certificate from Wheelock College in Boston Massachusetts. She had operated nursery schools in East Boston and Oberlin and 1943 married her husband who had been a student at Oberlin College. She moved to Hamburg, New York with her husband to raise their six children in addition to opening their home to exchange students and refugees. She was a member of Hamburg Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir. Jean was always involved with youth organizations including the American Field Service and received numerous awards for her leadership roles with Campfire Girls. Jean possessed a gentle spirit and was loved by her family and all those she meet. Jean is survived by children, Margaret Biscombe of North Bay, NY, Elizabeth Eaton of North Easton, MA, David Eaton of Warwick, NY, Nancy Tucker of Brunswick, ME and Anne Eaton of Lincoln, MA; thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, David Eaton in 1993; daughter, Constance Nagle in 2009; parents, Frank and Maude Warner; sister, Constance Regli and a brother, Bradford Warner.
