Joan J. Allen, 87, of Elyria, died October 1, 2014 at Life Care Center of Elyria.She was born June 30, 1927 and was a lifelong Elyria resident.Joan was a 1945 graduate of Elyria High School and in 1948, graduated as a registered nurse from M.B. Johnson School of Nursing in Elyria.She had been employed as a registered nurse at University Hospitals EMH Regional Medical Center and after retiring, worked as a private duty nurse.Joan enjoyed bowling, bingo and golf and recorded a hole-in-one at Oberlin Golf Club.She was preceded in death by her parents Ira and Sadie Allen.A graveside service will be Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. Reverend Craig Golden, associate pastor of First Baptist Church of Elyria will officiate. Arrangements are in the care of Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elyria.
