John A. Thompson, Jr., 72, of Elyria, passed away unexpectedly December 3, 2021. He was born April 26, 1949 in Jackson, Ohio and graduated from Elyria High School in 1968. John served in the Vietnam War as a member of the US Air Force from 1968-1972. After retiring from manufacturing in 1984, he was employed at Whittguard Security until September 2021. He was a member of LaPorte United Methodist Church, a railroad enthusiast and enjoyed watching the Indians and spending time with his family. John is survived by daughters, Stacey (Ron) Combs of LaGrange, Stephanie Thompson of Elyria and Heather (Stan) Rehm of Wellington; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a sister, Peggy Pentito; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Lucy (nee Veres) and John A. Thompson, Sr.; brother, James Thompson; and a sister, Susan Caldwell. Friends will be received Friday, December 10, 2021 from 11:00 am until the time of a 1:00 pm service at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. Reverend William Baker will officiate and Elyria VFW #1079 will present military honors.
