John O. Big O Gilleland, II, 68, of Lorain, died December 26, 2015 at Main Street Care Center, Avon Lake.He was born August 10, 1947 in Cleveland and was a 1965 graduate of Admiral King High School. During the Vietnam War, John served with the U.S. Army and received the Purple Heart. For 30 years he was a lineman at Ohio Edison Company, retiring in 2010 and a member of I.B.E.W. #129, Lorain. John enjoyed golf and was a PBA bowler who was well known at Rebman Lanes in Lorain. John is survived by sisters Rita (Kenneth) Englebry of LaGrange and Lida (Ken) Zan of Amherst and a brother Stanley W. (Bev) Jewett of Brookpark, OH; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents John O. and Charlotte (nee Smith) Gilleland; brother Hansen Jewett and sisters Tina Gilleland, Roberta (Hal) Sherwood and Patricia Ratcliffe. Inurnment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
