John Edward SchmidtJohn Edward Schmidt, 74, of Elyria, died, March 29, 2019. He was born September 20, 1944 in Crestline, OH. From 1967 to 1969 John served in The US Army during The Vietnam War and was stationed in Vietnam. He had been employed by the city of Avon Lake and BFI as a sanitation engineer. John enjoyed spending time with his family, loved sports especially the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns and attended softball games through the parks and recreation sports programs. Taking after his father, John had a great sense of humor and was very easy going, friending anyone who came his way. John is survived by his wife of forty seven years, Judy (nee Rader); daughter, Jennifer (Darryl) Farkas; son, John Michael Schmidt and grandchildren, Kyle, Tyler and Briana Farkas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Irene (nee DeWalt) Schmidt and brothers, Jerry and Jack Schmidt. Friends will be received Friday April 5, 2019 from 3:00 PM until the time of a 4:00 PM memorial service at The Family Fellowship Church, 780 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Jennifer Schmidt to help with final expenses. Arrangements are in the care of Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elyria.
