John A. "Jack" McIver III's Obituary
John A. “Jack” McIver III, 87, of Amherst, died Friday, May 1, 2026. He was born November 16, 1938 in Louisville, KY. Jack was a 1960 graduate of Adelbert College where he excelled in both swimming and football. Earning four varsity letters as a member of the football team and helped guide the WRU Red Cats to the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championship in 1958. The following season he captained the football squad and earned both MVP and All-PAC first-team honors. Jack was also named All-American Special Mention by Street & Smith’s Football Magazine in 1959. In the pool, he set multiple school records in freestyle events. After undergrad, Jack worked hard to earn a Dental Degree at CWRU in 1964, served in the U. S. Air Force as a Captain until 1966, and subsequently moved to Elyria where he practiced dentistry for more than 38 years. Jack was a compassionate clinician and improved the dental health of many generations of patients. Also notable, Jack was a loving father, doting grandparent, superb artist, and a high-level racquetball player.
Jack is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorinne McIver; sons, Scott (Annette) and Matt (Nicole), both of Sheffield Village; grandchildren, Lauren, Madison, Jessica, Jacob and Katie and a sister, Ann (Richard) Simpson of Louisville, KY.
He was preceded in death by parents, John and Viola McIver.
Friends will be received Friday, May 8, 2026 from 5:00 pm until the time of an 8:00 pm service at Dicken, Dovin & Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria with Mr. Byron Scarborough officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park, Louisville, KY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friendship Animal Protective League, 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio or a charity of donor’s choice.
