John Randall Tjemmes' Obituary
John Randall Tjemmes, 81, of Sheffield Village, passed away peacefully June 19, 2026.
He was born January 9, 1945, in Chicago Heights, Illinois and was a 1963 graduate of Elyria High School. Shortly after graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1967. Following his military service, he relocated to California, where he dedicated many years to a career as a corrections officer for the California Department of Corrections before retiring June 11, 2006.
John was known for his strong work ethic, quiet demeanor, and unwavering sense of duty. He lived a life marked by dedication and integrity. In his leisure time, he enjoyed watching baseball, following his favorite teams, and viewing war documentaries. A lifelong student of history, he found great satisfaction in learning about the past and appreciating life's simple pleasures.
He is survived by his daughter, Julie (Kevin) Mobley; sister, Patricia Rea; nephew, Donovan Rea; and a great-nephew, Brendan Rea.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Harriet Tjemmes, and a nephew, Keith Rea.
Family and friends will be received Monday, June 29, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at Dicken, Dovin & Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria with Reverend Danny Parsons officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard at the funeral home. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
