Johnny B. Carr, 83, of Elyria, died May 13, 2016 in his home.He was born August 1, 1932 in McDonald, TN. From 1950 to 1952, Johnny served with the U.S. Army stationed in Korea. He was employed for 38 years as a lineman with the Elyria Telephone Company, retiring in 1996. He was a life member of Elyria V.F.W #1079 and a member of Elyria AMVETS Post 32 and Elyria American Legion Post 12.Johnny was a fan of NASCAR and enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping turtles.Johnny is survived by his wife of 51 years, Phyllis R.; daughter Tammy Matter (nee Carr) of Elyria; stepchildren, Virginia Toney of West Salem and Wilma Thayer and Charles David (Kathleen) Thayer, both of Elyria; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters Deloris Callahan of Chickamauga, GA and Kathy Carr of Cleveland, TN and a brother Don Carr of Spring City, TN.He was preceded in death by his parents Don and Laura Carr.Friends will be received Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 4 p.m. until the time of a 5:00 p.m. memorial service at LaPorte United Methodist Church, 2071 Grafton Rd. Elyria. Reverend William R. Wendell will officiate and Elyria V.F.W. #1079 will present military honors. Burial will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice, 9775 Rockside Rd. Suite 270 Valley View, OH 44125.
