Jonathan Robert Hawes, 27, of Elyria, passed away after his eight-year battle with a brain injury resulting from an automobile accident.He is survived by his parents Virginia [nee Maloney] and Bradley Hawes, his Brother Jason (25), Sister Jacque (20), and Grandmother Caroline Hawes. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.Jonathan lived his last six years at the Rae-Ann Westlake Nursing Home in Ohio where he was loved, but more importantly, treated by his caregivers like the son, brother, and friend he once was.Jon grew up in Elyria, Ohio, where he went to Windsor Elementary and Northwood Junior High. He graduated from Elyria High School in 2002. At Denison University, Jon studied economics, political science and philosophy while also playing basketball. He was an extremely dedicated individual that pursued his passions, whether intellectual or athletic, with an incredible and unrivaled work ethic.During the past eight years, Jon influenced those close to him and was a symbol of hope, determination and higher purpose. He was inadvertently a teacher of all things containing true value in this world, and for that, Jons life contained more meaning than any.A memorial service for Jon will be 1:45 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 330 Second St., Elyria, OH with Rev. Christina Kukuk, pastor officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jon R. Hawes Scholarship Fund, C/O Lorain National Bank, 124 Middle Ave., Elyria, OH 44035.
