Joseph Leuser Obituary
Joseph Jacob Leuser Obituary We are sad to announce that Joseph Jacob Leuser, surrounded by the love of his family and caregivers, passed away on June 3, 2023 in Chapel Hill, NC after 97 years of life. Joseph was born to Lawrence Jacob and Emma Rosina (Kuntz) Leuser on February 24, 1926, in Newtown, Ohio. He was born and raised in the Miller-Leuser historical log cabin, which was later preserved by the Anderson Historical Society on Clough Pike. He went to Guardian Angel Elementary School, Anderson Township High School and after serving in World War II (Tec 5), graduated from The Ohio State University in Horticulture. Joseph had such a deep love for his Catholic faith, his wife Eileen of 69 years and his family of 7 daughters and 2 sons, 32 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren, whom he prayed for daily, along with many other intentions. He is survived by his children Jean Seber, Patricia Kaine, Kathy (Jim) Mackin, Margaret Mary (Tim) Knapp, Joanne (Eric) Trabold, Joe (Marian) Leaser, Sharon (Will) Gates, and Mike (Jonna) Leaser. He was proceeded in death by his son-in-law Edward Seber, daughter Mary Clare Mowry and his wife Eileen Clare, whom he married on December 6, 1947 at St. Agnes Chapel, Lookout Heights, Fort Wright, Kentucky. He worked as a manager at Hinel’s Greenhouse in Elyria, Ohio and Ball Horticulture Company in West Chicago, Illinois. Joe obtained a real estate license and was a certified home appraiser. He taught classes at Lorain Community College from his horticultural background. He had an amazing voice and loved to sing, a champion bridge player, enjoyed playing chess, checkers and other card games with his friends and family and shared the richness of the family heritage through genealogy. He enjoyed travelling on cruises and family camping trips. He taught his children to see the beauty of God’s handiwork found in nature. Joe shared a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, often prayed the rosary and would always bless his children on the forehead saying “God bless you and take care of you” each time they would leave. He was involved with Marriage Encounter, Cursillo Movement, and served as a lector at St. Mary Church. He was a faithful parishioner at St. Mary Magdalene Parish in Apex, NC. It was important for him to support the church and cloistered orders such at the Poor Clare Sisters and literacy programs for children. Joseph was known to share his faith and encourage others with theirs, with the many books he gave as gifts such as 33 Days to Morning Glory, Understanding Divine Mercy and The Secrets of the Rosary. He will be missed and we know he will continue to pray for us. Friends will be received Monday, June 12 from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM at Dicken Funeral Home, Elyria, Ohio. Followed by an 11:00 am Funeral Mass at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church on 320 Middle Ave. Reverend Father Charles T. Diedrick will be the celebrant.
