Josephine Charley (nee Perry), 85, of Elyria died April 17, 2016 in her home.She was born January 2, 1931 in Bessemer, Jefferson County, Alabama, moving to Harlan, KY in 1947 and has been a resident of Elyria since 1951.For 31 years, Mrs. Charley was employed in the home of Dr. Kenneth and Mary Margaret Willard, retiring in 1993. She was a former member of Jones Chapel AME Church, Elyria, where she was a stewardess and Sunday school teacher. As an avid reader of the bible, she has been studying with Jehovahs Witnesses. As her knowledge grew, she desired to be one of the Jehovahs Witnesses. Despite adversity, she maintained a positive and joyful attitude. She was a loyal, dedicated wife and mother and embraced all people. She was an outstanding cook and enjoyed flower gardening, especially yellow flowers, which were her favorite. Known as Gram, she is survived by sons Stephen, Leroy Sr.., Ivory and Brian Charley, all of Elyria, Leroy Charley, Jr. who was raised as a son and Timothy Tuggle, loved as a son; daughters Beverly Amerson and Molly Charley, both of Elyria and Janice Smith of Oberlin; 42 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren and a sister Mary McDonald of Dallas, TX.She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Charley in 1998; daughters Katie Black and Marie Evans; sons Samuel Tuggle and George Charley; brothers James, Albert, Joseph, Frank, Will, Lee, George and Bernard Perry; sisters Clara Berry and Katie Howze and parents Joseph and Alsie Perry.Friends will be received Friday, April 22, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of a 1:00 p.m. service at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. Elder Jimmy Reynolds will officiate.
