Joyce Halliday's Obituary
Joyce Halliday Obituary
Joyce Halliday (nee Buchholz), 92, of Elyria, passed away Monday, January 25, 2021. She was born June 6, 1928 in Grafton and was a 1946 graduate of Grafton High School. She later made her home in Elyria, where she raised a family of four children and worked at the Chronicle Telegram for nearly 30 years. Over the years, Joyce enjoyed volunteering with the Lorain County Metroparks and Girl Scouts of North East Ohio. She especially loved working with kindergarten and first grade classrooms in the Elyria school district. She was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Elyria and enjoyed being active in the church community. In her free time, Joyce could usually be found baking cookies, knitting a prayer shawl for church, or reading a library book. She loved fishing and camping trips with her family and was a proud Lifetime Member of Girl Scouts. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling, golf and playing the guitar and string bass. What Joyce treasured most was spending time with the people she loved. Whether it was playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren or simply listening to her children and their spouses catch up during the holidays, she was happiest when her family was gathered together. Joyce was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend. Her home was always open to visitors, and everyone who walked through the door was greeted with a big smile and a warm hug. Joyce is survived by her sons, David (Michelle), Doug (Maryann), and Don (Patti); grandchildren, Christopher, Eric, Jeremy (Bernadette), Gretchen (Will), Ethan (Paula), Kristen, and Nickolas; and great-grandchildren, Brody, Felicity, and Elizabeth. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Becki Spragg; sister, Jan Nickel; and parents, Carl and Bertha Buchholz. The family will hold a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the baby needs bank at St. John Lutheran Church in Elyria or the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
