Julia Novak Obituary
Julia (Yolan) Novak (nee Toth), 92, of Elyria, died January 7, 2016.She was born August 19, 1923 in Berryburg, Barbour Co., WV. She was the daughter of a coal miner and a hard-working mother. At the age of 16, Julia moved to Elyria and worked at Western Automatics during World War II. She made her career as a cafeteria worker at Elyria West High School and retired from Elyria Schools. She enjoyed the many friendships made with her co-workers and students. Julia was a member of Community of Faith United Church of Christ and a member of the former Magyar United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school, helped with cleaning of the sanctuary, was a member of the choir, and secretary of the Dorcas Guild. She enjoyed fundraising activities at the church which included noodle making and traditional Hungarian dinners. She was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes football. Her interests included cooking, making tomato juice and baking pastries, which was a significant part of her Hungarian heritage. She was proud of her family, her heritage and America. She will be greatly missed.Julia is survived by sons Ronald (Bonnie) Novak of Temperance, MI and Alex (Kim) Novak of Dexter, MI; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Alex in 1999; parents John and Sophie Toth; brother Albert Toth and sisters Bertha Vargo and Betty Ignatz.Friends will be received Monday, January 11, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. A service will be Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Community of Faith United Church of Christ, 9715 East River Rd., Elyria with Reverend Jim Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. Memorial contributions may be made to Community of Faith United Church of Christ.
