Karen Elaine Peck (nee Speed), 65, of Elyria, Ohio, went Home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at her home April 4, 2017, following a two-year journey with cancer. She was born July 31, 1951 in Batavia, New York and was a 1969 graduate of Oakfield-Alabama Central School. Karen placed her trust in Christ and asked Him to be her Savior as a young child. As a teenager, Karen dedicated her life to the Lord and promised that she would serve Him. As a young teen she began teaching children’s Bible classes, and that planted the seeds in her heart for lifelong ministry. She and the young boy named Michael, who would one day become her husband, met in the third grade and grew up together. For thirty-one years she served as a faithful pastor’s wife, and since 2001 she and her husband served with Baptist Church Planters. Karen served as the Director of JOY Club Youth Ministries. She was a gifted children’s teacher and ladies’ speaker.Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Lorraine Speed, and sons, Jeffrey and William. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Michael; children, John (Brenda) of Severn, MD, Jo-Ann (Winfield) of New Milford, PA, Jean (Michael) of Port Crane, NY, Jeremy (Christina) of Wellington, OH, Melissa of Panama, NY, Rachel (Joshua) of Grafton, OH, Jay and Wally of Jamestown, NY, as well as twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brother, Wayne (Carol) of Oakfield, NY and numerous nieces and nephews throughout the United States who knew her as “Aunt Karen.” Throughout her two-year battle with cancer, Karen became known as the “win-win” lady. She shared with many that either she would be cured of the cancer and would have more time with her family which would be a “win,” or she would go home to be with the Lord and that really would be a “win.” Friends will be received Friday, April 7, 2017 from 5 to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Elyria, 11400 LaGrange Road, Elyria, Ohio. A celebration of God’s grace and blessing in her life will take place Saturday April 8, 2017 at 11:00 am at the church. Private burial will be in River Road Cemetery, LaGrange Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Baptist Church Planters’ Youth Ministry, 36830 Royalton Road, Grafton, OH 44044 or First Baptist Christian School, 11400 LaGrange Road, Elyria, OH 44035.
