Kathryn Farnsworth Obituary
Kathryn M. Farnsworth (nee Micklewright), 90, of Oberlin, OH, died March 12, 2014 at Kendal at Oberlin. Born in Omaha, NE on April 22, 1923, she was raised in Elgin, IL and was a longtime resident of Englewood, NJ. She moved to Oberlin in 1993 as a founding member of Kendal at Oberlin.Kathryn was a 1944 graduate of OberlinCollege and in 1975 received a Masters degree in Library Science from ColumbiaUniversity. She taught kindergarten, was a children’s librarian, and was a professional storyteller. She taught storytelling at BankStreetCollege in NY and RutgersUniversity; founded the storytelling program at Van Saun Park in Paramus, NJ; and was a frequent storyteller at the Hans Christian Andersen Statue in Central Park. She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Englewood, NJ and a member of FirstChurch in Oberlin, OH. Kathryn is survived by daughter Ann E. Farnsworth (Pat) of Scarsdale, NY; sons John E. Farnsworth (Fran) of Brewster, MA, William C. Farnsworth (Karen) of Melrose, MA, and James R. Farnsworth (Sara) of Scarsdale, NY; and 8 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Charles E. Farnsworth in 2005; brother Robert Micklewright; and sister Elizabeth Micklewright Porter. A memorial service for Kathryn will be held 10:00 a.m.Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Kendal at Oberlin.A memorial service will also be held in Englewood, NJ in the spring of 2014. Interment will be in Lake ViewCemetery, Cleveland, OH.
