Kenneth A. “Corque” KorkaKenneth A. “Corque” Korka, 69, of Cleveland and formerly of Elyria died February 25, 2019 at his home. He was born July 28, 1949 in Elyria and was a 1967 graduate of Elyria High School. He spent twenty years in Fort Myers Beach and Orlando, Florida where he managed several roller rinks. Over the years Ken held numerous positions in the retail market. He returned to Ohio in 2004 to be closer to family. Ken was also a decorated professional roller skater, competed in numerous national figure skating competitions, and loved coaching fellow skaters. He enjoyed watching ice skating competitions on TV. He had been active in AA and he loved “pool Sundays”, going to breakfast with family and friends, and spending time telling stories and laughing. Ken is survived by his sister, Brenda (Bob) Yost of Elyria; niece, Lindsay (Joe) Bott; nephews, Gib (Jen) Korka, Robert (Judy) Nieding and Tyler (Jen) Yost; six great nieces and nephews and three great great nieces and nephews; his AA family and the light of his life, his dog, Theodore “Teddy”. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jenna Smithers; brothers, Gary Nieding and Ron Korka; great nephew, Jeremy Korka and grandmother, Bessie Smithers.A memorial service will be Saturday 11:00 AM March 2, 2019 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 330 Second Street, Elyria 44035 with Reverend Patrick Nicolino officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational United Church of Christ Open and Affirming Fund or American Heart Association, 1689 E. 115 Street, Cleveland, OH 44106. Arrangements are in the care of Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria.
