Kenneth Sprankle Obituary
Kenneth E. Sprankle, 86, of Elyria, died November 8, 2013. He was born July 24, 1927 in Medina and moved to Elyria in 1938. Ken was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre during WWII. After his discharge from the Navy he returned to Elyria and graduated from Elyria High School in 1947. Ken had owned and operated a painting and wallpaper company in Elyria for forty years. He was a talented artist and created oil paintings, stained glass windows and lamps and other works of art including hand tooled leather. He was a licensed private pilot and traveled throughout the United States with his wife to various art shows. He also traveled extensively with the Wally Byam Air Stream Caravan Club of which he was a former president. He was a member of Elyria VFW Post 1079, Elyria American Legion Post 12 and Elyria AmVets Post 32. Ken is survived by his wife of fifty six years, Pearl H.; daughter, Kathy Jo Greathouse of Allen, Texas; grandchildren, including William L. Worcester of Elyria and Jennifer Ann (Jeff) Hobbs of Crossville, Tennessee; nine great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren and an adopted granddaughter, Kista Atkins.He was preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth Sprankle; parents, Floyd and Grace Sprankle and a step-daughter, Kathleen Kerley.Friends will be received Tuesday November 12, 2013 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A graveside service will be Thursday November 14, 2013 at !:00 PM at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Elyria where Elyria VFW Post 1079 will conduct a military service. Memorial contributions may be made Elyria VFW Post 1079 Honor Guard, 500 South Abbe Road, Elyria.
