KENT MAX SPIETH, 93, died at 1 A.M., May 1, 2023 at Independence Village, Avon Lake, Ohio following a brief illness. He was born July 12, 1929, in Van Wert, Ohio to Herman Benjamin and Opal Custer Spieth. Kent served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955 as a weather observer, after which he attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, to earn his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education in 1957 and 1958 respectively. He was a proud member and past President of the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity at Miami. On August 1, 1959 he married Sharon C. Spieth (nee Chiles) forming a “Miami Merger,” as both were graduates of Miami University. Kent started as a Science teacher in the Avon Lake City Schools and continued on to work as a School Psychologist retiring from the Lorain County Schools in 1985. He continued on in this line of work with various parochial schools in the area into the1990’s. He and his wife have been active members of the Bay United Methodist Church and previously the Lakeshore United Methodist Church. Kent has enjoyed his involvement in the United Methodist community throughout his lifetime. Kent had been active with the Avon Lake Kiwanis Club. Survivors include his wife, Sharon C. Spieth; sons, Todd K. Spieth of Bay Village, Ohio and Eric J. Spieth of Westlake, Ohio; daughter, Kelley S. Needham of Vermilion, Ohio; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Opal and father Herman Spieth; brother, Benny Spieth and a sister, Beverley Sarria. A celebration of life service will be Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 11:00 am at Bay United Methodist Church, 29931 Lake Road, Bay Village, Ohio. A luncheon will follow. No visitation is planned. Burial will take place in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman at a later date.
