Lauretta Frances Hayes (nee OHearn) 93, of Elyria, died January 26, 2016.She was born March 18, 1922 in Mason City, Iowa to Frank C. and Leatha (nee Colegrove) OHearn. Lauretta was a 1944 graduate of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa and has been a member of the community since moving here from Cleveland in 1952 with her husband Roy. She served on several boards including First Congregational United Church of Christ, Elyria Memorial Hospital Foundation, and Lake Ridge Academy. She was instrumental in the conceptualization, development and construction of Park Place Early Learning Center. Mrs. Hayes was an accomplished violinist and played in various string groups and orchestras. She was an avid bridge player and a member of several of bridge clubs. She loved to read and was a member of various book clubs, where she enjoyed preparing and presenting book reviews. Lauretta was a fun, generous person with a great sense of humor, loved traveling and entertaining and was passionate about sports and politics.Lauretta is survived by children Deborah (George) Hill, Pamela Peterson, Barbara (Lee) Thomas, Patricia Hayes and Roy Hayes, Jr.; grandchildren James, Jennifer, Tyden and John Peterson, Katharine and Emily Hayes and Mike Thomas; great grandchildren Boden, Hailey and Cooper Peterson.She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Roy E. Hayes, M.D. October 7, 1981. Lauretta was dearly loved by her family and friends and will remain an inspiration and role model for all who knew her.Friends will be received Sunday, February 7, 2016 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the familys residence. A service will be Monday, February 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 330 Second Street, Elyria. Reverend Patrick S. Nicolino and Reverend Ronald K. Marmaduke will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Roy E. Hayes, M.D. Memorial Fund, C/O Community Foundation of Lorain County, 9080 Leavitt Rd. Elyria, Ohio 44035. Arrangements are in the care of Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elyria.
