Laurie Irene DeChant (nee: Gregory), 49, of Elyria, passed away Friday April 19, 2013 at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria. She was born July 18, 1963 in Elyria and was a 1982 graduate of Elyria High School. She was a member of Lake Avenue United Church of Christ and loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed country music, shopping and her volunteer work. Laurie had over 2500 hours of volunteer service at Elyria Wesleyan Village where she will be missed by the residents. Laurie is survived by a son, Stephen Douglas DeChant (TaKara); grandson, Sylas and granddaughters, Nevaeha and Nakyra Bragg; parents, Oren and Janet Gregory and a sister, Lisa Kasubinski (Douglas) all of Elyria; brother, Todd Gregory and Brother Bob Comanse both of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; niece, Paige Kasubinski and nephew, Ryan Kasubinski; friend of many years, Denise Cibroski and many aunts, uncles and cousins.She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas G. DeChant in 1991; grandparents, Trubie and Irene Gregory and Maud Mitrik and a brother, Brian William Gregory.Friends will be received Tuesday, April 23, 2013 from 3:00 PM until the time of a 6:00 PM service at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria with Reverend Robert Gross officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Nord Center, 6140 South Broadway, Lorain, Ohio, 44055.
