Lawrence Ed Payne, 80, of Sheffield Lake, formerly of Brookfield, Missouri, died Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Ames Family Hospice in Westlake.He was born January 19, 1933 in Brookfield, Missouri and was a 1952 graduate of Brookfield High School, where he lettered in football. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and he later attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College, Kirksville, Missouri. Ed worked 40 years with Burlington Northern Railroad as an engineer and also served 5 years as Vice Chairman of BLE Railroad Union, retiring in 1992. While in Missouri, he was a member of V.F.W. and Masonic Lodge. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sheffield Lake and enjoyed golfing, bicycling and photography.Ed is survived by his wife of 25 years, Gretchen (nee Alberts); daughter Janet (Eddie) Willet and son Lawrence (Elizabeth) Payne, Jr., both of Missouri; stepdaughter Michele (Thomas) Reeve of Missouri and stepson Louis Dale Longbrake of FL; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; brothers Pastor Bernard (Sandy) Payne of Iowa, Orville Payne of California, Larry (Cathy) Payne of Missouri, Roger (Cindy) Payne and sister Evelyn Davis, both of Missouri and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by parents Lawrence L. and Wilhelmina (nee Passig) Payne; son Derald Lee Payne; stepson Kevin Longbrake and step grandson Jonathan Longbrake. Dicken Funeral Home, Elyria handled arrangements and burial was in Knollwood Cemetery, Mayfield Heights, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Association, P.O.
