Leona S. “Marie” Cox (nee: Shaffer)Leona S. “Marie” Cox (nee: Shaffer), 67, of Oberlin died July 15, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was born November 24, 1949 in Elyria and was a 1967 graduate of Elyria High School. Leona was a member of First Baptist Church of Elyria. She processed many talents including those of a seamstress and cake decorator and enjoyed bowling and arts and crafts. Leona was known as the “Hugger” and was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend.She is survived by her husband of forty two years, James Cox; son, Phillip Cox; daughters, Yvonne O’Hara, Amelia Patterson, Beth Trask and Christine Ansell; grandchildren, Chris and Jon O’Hara and Megan, Courtney and Aaron Trask; three great grandchildren in addition to many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, Steven Shaffer and Elnora Emerson; brother, Leonard Shaffer and nephew, Army Spc. Jason Cox.Friends will be received Tuesday July 18, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service. 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. A funeral service will be Wednesday July 19, 2017 at 11:00 AM in First Baptist Church of Elyria, 11400 LaGrange Road, Elyria. Pastor Patrick Odle will officiate. The family extends their appreciation for the care given to Leona by Mercy New Life Hospice and Amherst Manor Nursing Home.
