Marion Dobney Obituary
Marion Dorris (nee Goodman) Dobney, 96, of Elyria, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Kingston of Vermilion Skilled Nursing Home as a result of Covid-19. She was born July 24, 1925 in Elyria, the fourth of six children born to the late Conrad and Emma (nee Bohash) Goodman of Elyria. On July 3, 1948, she married James L. Dobney, who preceded her in death in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Emma Nelson and Virginia Stevenson, both of Elyria, and a brother, Albert Goodman, also of Elyria. She is survived by younger brothers, Theodore of Grafton and Tyler of Tucson, Arizona. Also surviving are daughters, Diane Norris (Neal) of Vermilion and Debra Swartz (Tim) of Lakewood; and son, Donald Dobney of Parma Heights. She will be greatly missed by her granddaughters, Kerri Norris of Alexandria, Virginia, Rochelle Hudson of Asheville, North Carolina, and Margaret Riley-Guiberteau (Missy) of Atlanta, Georgia. Marion was a proud 1943 graduate of Elyria High School and twirled baton in the first rank of majorettes formed by the Elyria High Marching Band. Following the WWII, she worked at Heldemeier’s Hardware Store in Elyria and later was a school bus driver for Lake Ridge Academy. Marion was especially devoted to the cause of donating blood and received special recognition for her donation of over 20 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. Marion was a second-generation lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Elyria. She formed countless friendships always showing genuine interest in others who were drawn to her quick sense of humor and fun. Marion was a loving mother and dedicated homemaker who created a wonderful living environment for her family. She was an accomplished gardener with an amazing green thumb. Her fondness of gardening and yard work lead her to design and construct a large, beautifully landscaped patio where she hosted many gatherings and celebrations. Marion also loved the beach and time spent with family and friends at the family cottage in Huron. She enjoyed watching the sports and marching bands of the Midview Middies, Elyria Pioneers, and Ohio State Buckeyes, and cheered for the Cleveland Indians and Browns. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and concern for the health of family and friends, burial will be private for members of the immediate family. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, 1140 West River Road North, Elyria, OH 44035 or the American Red Cross.
