Mary Ann (nee Shafer) Shearer's Obituary
Mary Ann Shafer Shearer, age 94, was at last reunited with loved ones who passed before her. She was raised in Caldwell, Ohio and has resided in Oberlin, Ohio since 1997.
Mary Ann majored in German at Oberlin College and following graduation studied at Philipps-University in Marburg, Germany. She earned the Masters in Literature degree at the University of Pittsburgh and taught at the Ellis School in that city. While in Pittsburgh, she and her late husband John attended the greatest game moment in baseball history. Active in the Lutheran Church, she served as President of the Board of Directors of the Arkansas, Oklahoma Lutheran Social Services and later on the Board of Directors of Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. Throughout the early 1990's, Mary Ann taught English in the Evangelical Lyceum in Bratislava, Slovakia. After returning to Oberlin, Mary Ann became a dedicated CASA volunteer. She and her late husband traveled widely in Europe, South America and Asia.
Mary Ann is survived by two children and three grandchildren.
Private services will be held at a later date.
