Mary Ellis Obituary
Mary Lou Ellis (nee Bauman), 88, of Elyria, passed away February 11, 2021 surrounded by her family at her home. She was born November 1, 1932 in Canal Fulton, OH, the middle daughter of Wilbur and Helen (nee Packer) Bauman. Mary Lou married her high school sweetheart and best friend October 28, 1952. They moved to Elyria in 1963, where they lived until their retirement in 1995, moving to Lakeville, OH. There they renovated an old house on a lake into a beautiful home. They returned to Elyria in 2012. They were and remain active members at Emmanuel Lutheran Church where Mary Lou sang in the choir. While living in Lakeville they were members of St Michaels Lutheran Church. Mary Lou was a stay-at-home mom until their son started school. At that time Mary Lou returned to work teaching preschool at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. She absolutely loved the kids and teaching preschool and only stopped when her grandson started school. She then worked in food service at Baldwin Wallace with her son-in-law. Mary Lou was an avid seamstress sewing dresses for her daughters and granddaughters, including Easter, prom, and bridesmaid dresses and a gorgeous baptismal gown, jacket and hat. She was a fantastic crafter making dolls, teddy bears, rugs and sweatshirts. She knitted blankets, sweaters and keepsake Christmas stockings. She made cookies, candy, jelly and decorated the most beautiful cakes, especially the doll cakes she made for graduations. Mary Lou made many decorations for both churches over the years, many are still in use. She loved traveling, playing cards, putting together puzzles and having coffee with friends. Mary Lou was truly an amazing woman who was kind, generous, caring and compassionate. She loved the Lord. She was a great example to her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Mary Lou leaves behind her husband of 68 years, Duane; daughters Debra (Paul) Zernis of Pataskala OH, Nancy (Robert) Givens of Pueblo CO, Audrey (Tom) Bobek, and son Michael (Candace) Ellis both of Elyria; grandchildren Missi (Darren) Langkamp, Kym (Scott) Emrick, Chad Zernis, Eric (Charitie) Penfound, Amy (Jeff) Palmer, Krista (Chris) Werling, Kayla (Clay) Teague, Kelsey (Mike) Shanks, Elizabeth, Hannah and Levi Ellis; great-grandchildren Luke, Jake and Mark Langkamp, Chris Emrick, Garin Penfound, Madison Palmer, Nathan, Brooklyn and Zachary Werling, Jackson Shanks and Hudson Teague, 3 sisters-in-law, 3 brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
