Norma Jean HinchcliffeNorma Jean Hinchcliffe (nee Burns), 70 of Elyria, Ohio passed away peacefully in her sleep November 25, 2018. She was born February 2, 1948 in Sharon, PA, daughter of Howard and Norma Burns (nee Ryhal) of Hubbard, Ohio. Norma Jean was the eldest of four children and is survived by her husband of forty eight years, Larry Gene Hinchcliffe; sister, Delaine Paulette Collins (David) of Mesa, AZ and brother, Leslie Evert Burns (Anita) of Brookfield, Ohio. She is also survived by her daughter, Diana Lynn Hinchcliffe of Long Beach, CA; son, Alex James Hinchcliffe (Jamie) of Sacramento, CA and grandchildren, Jaxson and Sophie. Norma Jean was preceded in death by her infant sister, Linda Lee Burns and her parents.Norma Jean grew up in Hubbard, Ohio and was a graduate of Hubbard High School. She married her church youth group soulmate, Larry and started their life together in an apartment in Girard, Ohio. After moving to Austintown and working at Packard Electric, she earned her license in Cosmetology and started her own beautician business working out of the basement of their home. She continued her career while raising their family in between moves to Texas and back. She retired from Golden Scissors Hair Salon of North Ridgeville, Ohio after forty three years of styling hair.As a devout Christian, she was a life-long member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, later known as the Community of Christ. Through the years, she served in many leadership positions in the Elyria, Ohio Branch.Norma Jean and Larry loved to travel, jetting to the islands of Hawaii on five separate occasions through the years with family and friends. She also loved to cook and bake for her family and for friends at church activities. Her culinary skills were inherited from her mother who operated the Burns Candy and Cake business in Hubbard, Ohio.Norma Jean had a positive outlook on life. She was loved and respected by many for her selfless willingness to help others in times of need. She radiated love. Her heart-felt care and concerns for others could be felt by all those she came in contact with. Her unconditional love for her friends, siblings, children and grandchildren was surpassed only by her devotion to her husband, Larry.A celebration of Norma Jean’s life will be Thursday December 27, 2018 at Tom’s Country Place, 3442 Stoney Ridge Road, Avon, Ohio 44011. A memorial service will be at 6:00 PM followed by a catered reception from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. If planning to attend the reception, please graciously RSVP to Diana Hinchcliffe no later than December 23rd so we may plan accordingly.
