Norman Sparr Obituary
Norman P. Sparr, 95, of Elyria, died January 18, 2015 at Henry County Hospital in Napoleon, Ohio.He was born May 10, 1919 in Lorain and has lived most of his life in Elyria. He was a 1937 graduate of Elyria High School and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in Guam and the Philippines. From 1948 to 1971, Norman was employed as an assembler at Fruehauf Trailer Corporation in Avon Lake and from 1973 to 1985 as a machine operator at Martin Tobin Company in North Ridgeville. After retiring, he worked as a page and volunteer at The Elyria Public Library, a volunteer at Wesleyan Village and an election booth worker. Since 1948, he has been a member of St. John Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir and was also a member of the barbershop quartet Turnpike Four. He enjoyed watching sports, writing poetry and taking long walks with his wife. A special time was their trip together to Hawaii.Norm is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Reverend Ted Rellstab of Holgate, OH; grandchildren Paul (Erika) Rellstab of Geneseo, NY, Pamela Rellstab of Holgate, OH and Ted (Melanie) Rellstab of Homer Glen, IL; great grandchildren Brody and Maddyn and friends Bob and Debbie Langford of Elyria.He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Opal L. in 2013; parents Carl and Bessie Sparr; sister Harriett Oberg and brothers Evan, Edgar, Fred, George, James and Harold Sparr.Friends will be received Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 2 to 6 P.M. at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave. Elyria. Friends will also be received Friday, January 23, 2015 from 10 A.M. until the time of an 11:00 A.M. service at St. John Lutheran Church, 1140 West River Rd. N., Elyria. Rev. James Herbolsheimer will officiate with burial in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, Township. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church.
